Jacksonville, FL

– Students at the Florida Virtual Academy (FLVA) – one of the state's two full-time K-8 online public school programs – posted strong scores on the 2007 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Tests (FCAT).

As in previous years, the percent of Florida Virtual Academy students scoring proficient or higher exceeded the state averages in most grades and subjects tested. For the fourth year in a row, the Florida Virtual Academy was the top-scoring K-8 online public school in the state.

Florida Virtual Academy's eighth grade students had very strong scores compared to the state in reading, math and science, exceeding the eighth grade state averages by 35, 27 and 26 points respectively. Many of the eighth grade students have been with the school since it opened in 2003, indicating that students who are with the school for multiple years perform very well on the state assessment tests.

"We are very proud of these scores and the continued academic excellence of our school,” said Patty Betoni, Florida Virtual Academy Head of School. "These results are a credit to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, students and entire school community."

The Florida Virtual Academy uses the high quality and innovative learning program developed by K12 Inc., a leading national provider of curriculum and services to online public schools.

The Florida Virtual Academy is one of 16 statewide online public schools in the U.S. that provide students with the K12 curriculum; three online public schools located in major metropolitan cities also use the K12 program. The K12 curriculum is currently used by more than 25,000 students and 700 teachers in online public schools nationwide. Many of the top-scoring online public schools are using the K12 curriculum and school services.
