January 20, 2009

Online Public School Will Use the K12 High School Program

HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 2009--K12 Inc. announced today that the Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA) received approval from the Nevada State Board of Education to offer the complete K12 high school program beginning next academic year. The school, which currently serves more than 900 students in grades K-9, will expand to add grades 10-12. The Nevada Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the expansion on Friday, January 16, 2009.

NVVA, a statewide online public school founded in 2007, is chartered by the Nevada State Board of Education and led by the NVVA Board of Directors, an independent group of Nevada parents and community leaders who oversee and govern the school. The tuition-free public school uses the curriculum and school services provided by K12 Inc., the nation's leading provider of K-12 online education programs. Enrollment is open to all Nevada residents.

"The NVVA Board would like to thank the Nevada State Board of Education for approving our school's expansion to serve students in kindergarten through twelfth grade," said Bill Bukovi, Chairman of the NVVA Board of Directors. "This is very welcome news for our families, but especially for those with children who want to continue at NVVA through graduation. We are excited that our school will soon have the opportunity to deliver the excellent K12 high school program to students across Nevada."

NVVA uses innovative curriculum and technology to provide students the opportunity to receive a public education regardless of where they live. NVVA students learn outside a traditional classroom by accessing their lessons via the Internet and receiving instruction from state-licensed teachers. Students are required to meet accountability standards, including academic and attendance requirements, and must participate in state assessments in a proctored setting.

"K12 is excited to work with the NVVA Board to offer our high school program," said Ron Packard, Founder and CEO of K12 Inc. "We are thankful to the Nevada State Board of Education for making this option available to the children of Nevada. We are now one step closer to achieving our mission of making our high quality education program available to every child in the United States."
