June 22, 2012

TACOMA, Wash. and BELLEVUE, Wash., June 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Statewide online public schools Washington Virtual Academies and Insight School of Washington are proud to honor 2012 graduates this June in two separate graduation ceremonies. Students from all over Washington met face-to-face to receive their diplomas and celebrate their accomplishments with their teachers and families.

Insight School of Washington (ISWA), serving students in 9th through 12th grade, celebrated more than 425 total graduates, with more than 200 graduates traveling from around the state to attend the ceremony in Bellevue on June 16. Bill Finkbeiner, the first executive director of Insight and a candidate for Lt. Governor for Washington state, was the keynote speaker at the event.

Washington Virtual Academies (WAVA), serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade, honored more than 50 graduates during its ceremony at Greater Tacoma Convention Center on June 10. Both schools also held proms, with hundreds of high school students getting together to dance the night away with their online school classmates.

"We're proud to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of each of our graduates," said Mark Christiano, Head of School at WAVA. "The graduation ceremonies recognize not only their achievements, but the encouragement and support of their families and teachers."

The proms and graduation ceremonies are just a few of the many opportunities students have to interact face-to-face with each other and their teachers throughout the year including class outings, service projects, and online and offline clubs.
