The most extensive in the K-12 industry with more than 500 unique online courses and titles1, the K12® school district catalog now has more than 20 new or enhanced courses, including updated core subjects, new world language courses, additional electives, and Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses, developed in full alignment with Common Core State Standards, as well as other state and national standards. The catalog now also features more than a dozen new AP exam reviews, provided as companions to the full AP courses.
New courses and content for the 2013-2014 school year include:
AP Exam Reviews – K12 recently introduced subject-specific, self-study online reviews that enable students to target the exact content and question types they need to review and practice to prepare for the AP Exam. The reviews provide complete, timed practice simulations of exam sections and reflect the latest College Board guidelines in both content emphasis and question types. Students can take simulated AP Exams – the way they will be given by the College Board – to practice the various test questions by topic, or review a condensed, outlined version of the course content directly. World Languages – Today, schools and districts have access to a full suite of online courses in five world languages through Middlebury Interactive Languages™, which combines Middlebury College’s proven language pedagogy with K12’s expertise in online learning. For the new school year, Middlebury is introducing a new level of courses designed to introduce younger students in grades K-2 to world languages, starting with Spanish I. In addition, three new courses are available for high school students: French II, Spanish II, and Chinese II.
Electives – For college and career readiness, K12 now has more than 120 electives for middle and high school students. Four new high school electives – Introduction to Culinary Arts, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Fashion and Interior Design, and History of the Holocaust – are designed to engage and motivate today’s teenagers in high-interest subject areas.
Other New and Updated Courses and Titles – K12 has also added new AP, core, and credit recovery courses, as well as updated versions of several existing courses and titles across its catalog. For example, Chemistry is now available with the Aventa Learning® by K12 credit recovery curriculum, which features 19 courses designed specifically for credit recovery that include state-certified teacher support.
Ashley Benning, a California-certified teacher and K12’s lead for English AP course content, is excited about the new AP Exam Reviews.
