K12 Inc. Wins Two AEP 2013 Distinguished Achievement Awards

June 7, 2013

Herndon, Va. (PRWEB) June 07, 2013

K12 Inc., a leader of technology-powered individualized education solutions for students in pre-kindergarten through high school, today announced it has received two 2013 Distinguished Achievement Awards from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP).

The AEP awards recognize the finest achievements in educational products used by teachers, parents, and students. Honoring excellence and innovation in the education community, the awards are the longest running and most highly regarded recognition program in the industry.

K12 received a Distinguished Achievement Award in the Reading and Language Arts category for its Language Arts Orange course for second graders. All of the K12 Language Arts courses provide a comprehensive and interrelated sequence of lessons for students to continue building their proficiency in reading fluency, literal and inferential comprehension, writing skills, vocabulary, spelling, and handwriting. Lesson materials for offline learning combined with online instruction guide young students and their instructors through the process of understanding what they read, uncovering how authors create meaning, and communicating their own ideas through writing and speaking.

The company also received a Distinguished Achievement Award in the Integrated Curriculum Program category for embarK12™, a new, comprehensive pre-K Kindergarten readiness program that will be available to families and school districts this summer. embarK12 is an easy-to-use pre-K program offering both online and offline activities with rich multimedia and hand-on, minds-on engagement for children who are 3 to 5 years of age. embarK12 was also named a finalist for AEP’s Golden Lamp award.

"We are very proud of these two AEP Awards," said Maria Szalay, Executive Vice President of Product Development for K12 Inc. "The awards are a testament to K12’s talented and dedicated curriculum team, whose mission is to develop outstanding, highly effective curriculum that enables mastery of concepts for all types of learners."

Both are part of the K12 curriculum for full-time online learning, which includes strategies based on the most current research and cognitive science and uses a combination of online lessons and traditional materials. Online lessons blend visually appealing text, photos, illustration, animation, audio, and interactivity, giving students an engaging educational experience. All courses are designed to align with state and national standards.
