Combination of K12-powered Career Academies and Online Platform
Prepares Students for High-Growth, In-Demand Jobs
HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 2018--
K12 Inc. (NYSE: LRN), a technology-based education company and leading
provider of online curriculum and school programs for students in pre-K
through high school, has made a $9M strategic investment in STEM Premier
to grow the online community linking current and future workforce talent
with organizational recruiting needs, in such areas as advanced
manufacturing, information technology, finance and accounting,
healthcare, applied sciences, hospitality, and general business fields.
STEM Premier connects students with potential career pathways, jobs and
apprenticeships, as well as two and four-year colleges, trade schools
and scholarship opportunities. The end-to-end, relationship-building
platform has a growing community of over 350,000 users. Students from
more than 19,000 different high schools are represented on STEM Premier
across all 50 states. Users create an external “virtual portfolio” to
showcase career interests, academic performance, extracurricular
activities, accomplishments and certifications. Member organizations can
identify, track and directly reach out to users with portfolios that
match their recruiting and workforce needs.
“Our strategic investment in STEM Premier will develop a robust talent
pipeline of skilled workers empowered to thrive in the 21st
century business environment,” said Nate Davis, K12 Inc. CEO.
“Incorporating STEM Premier into our Destinations portfolio will prove
to be a powerful force in matching students with hard-to-fill job
opportunities in fields like healthcare, IT, construction and
manufacturing.”
There are thirteen Destinations Career Academies and programs throughout
the U.S. focused on Career Technical Education (CTE). These programs are
managed by K12 in conjunction with independent, non-profit Boards. In
addition to a core academic curriculum, Destination Career Academy
students pursue career-readiness courses that prepare them for
fulfilling careers, whether they choose to immediately enter the
workforce, attend a trade school, serve their country or attend a
traditional college.
“We’re excited to become a strategic partner in K12’s CTE efforts and
immediately provide Destinations students with an inside track to
opportunities that put them on a path toward future success,” said Casey
Welch, STEM Premier CEO. “Information technology, applied sciences,
healthcare and business knowledge and skills are highly-marketable,
often paving the way for students to transition into even more lucrative
career pathways that include management and entrepreneurial endeavors.”
Participation in STEM Premier is free and open to all students age
thirteen and older. To sign up for STEM Premier, or just to receive more
